Change - The Only Constant
To improve is to change, to be perfect is to change often. With the retirement of Sehwag & Sachin from ODI cricket, the Indian team was in search of a solid opener. Cometh the year 2013 - there was a masterstroke from MS Dhoni to promote Rohit Sharma as an opener. A guy who had averaged in the late 20s while batting in the mid order was asked to open the innings. MSD walks up to Rohit & says - Since you can play both the cut and pull shot well, you have the qualities to succeed as an opener. A decade later, when we see Rohit Sharma's record as an opener, we sit back and say 'success of the lazy elegance'. That one change propelled Rohit Sharma's career and he now holds the record for highest individual score in ODI cricket as an opener !
Well, why look out for Rohit Sharma to adapt to change - when it can be found within each one of us !
Right from our toddler days ! - The first change is when we enter school for the very first time. A new environment and no one to pamper us. Still, we overcome that change by making good friends and finding new activities at school.
The next change is from our school days to college. Amidst all these, there's one thing that's not gonna change - our parent's obsession to Engineering ! You adapt to last minute preparations, find the knacks of passing exam papers and also make friends for life. This phase has to be the best change & I'm sure most of you all out here would agree !
What's next? It has to be Campus to Corporate. Akin to the caging of a free spirited bird. The campus days wherein night outs and hangouts with friends suddenly turn into night shifts and business meets.
Amidst all these changes akin to the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly through the build up of a cocoon, we all embrace these changes so naturally.
My journey in Toastmasters started a year ago. Here I stand before you all transformed from a person with stage freight and fear of failure to a potential winner ! Change is going to be the only constant and in the process, unleash a better version of myself.
To improve is to change, to be perfect is to change often.
